Think Yourself Lucky
Don't tell me
how so many died
without a chance.
Or how the truck just happened by
that moment when your brother hit despair.
Or of the night they came for you.
I've heard it all before.
Go on then. Cheer me up.
I missed the train that crashed,
the falling tree, the faulty gene.
It never works.
The course must fit the tramlines
and tramlines never meet.
They travel on with us in tow,
my ticket non-transferable, like yours.
Windows steam up and don't allow a view
of your side of the track.
