Mijn vader/was te goeder trouw en nam het
My father
acted in good faith and took the smooth,
my mother blushed and took the rough
my brothers were allowed to choose,
chose my mother
my father stayed alone,
made notches in the walls around him,
and he became dull and out of date
and the smooth crumbled,
became uncertain
but my father just managed to hang onto
one last scrap of certainty
and that scrap was everything,
the famous everything,
of which there was no more.
