Visiting the Doctor
Lying back my mouth is crammed with angry bees,
and my abdomen is pumped with laughing gas
so that I find the situation funny,
though laughing with a full mouth isn’t easy.
I am a frog pinned against the slab,
bloated abdomen and skinny bent limbs in the air
and my busy bee stuffed mouth
giggling as it gags.
‘Just like a little hoover’, he says,
but the noise is different and I don’t believe him,
as he clutches my tiny amphibian fingers,
and I can see how red his face is,
how the vessels have burst on the surface,
as he lays me out, wet animal skin,
to dry in an unkind sun.
