Burn This Page
Rip it out and apologise
To the poem on the other side.
It’s best if it’s summer, and shining,
Because you’ll need a magnifying glass.
Through the thick glass
Point the sting of the captured ray
At the second ‘e’ of here
And try not to quiver or shake.
After ignition, as the fire twists the page,
Thank the sun quietly
For all its hard work
And its billions of burning years.
Then somewhere quiet, somewhere green,
Listen carefully as you scatter the ashes
And you might just hear the curl of the flame,
The things I was trying to say.
