The Yellow Lorry
Ian and Myra
linked forever like
Diana and Dodi
but made evil as a lorry
might be made evil for
carrying contraband life
mischievously abandoned
in the hermetic shadows
of 21st century Dover
while the rest of us
offered bland afterthoughts
and sentiment. Oh dear
while they were waiting
to be opened up and examined
and finally, one assumes
counted
like the bluebirds described by
Dame Vera Lynn
counted out and counted in
Brave New England
freezing them for posterity –
so many livers
so many lungs, so many
fingers, feet and thumbs.
Ian and Myra’s victims
Charles and Camilla’s love
made exotic and witness
to something scientifically chilled
and thoroughly discriminate – the
58 dead Chinese recorded
and hermetically sealed. 58
out of so many hundred millions.
