Egret on the Loughor Estuary
Will you be waiting for me in the afternoon,
when gentle waves springclean your cockled shore?
Still waters stroke the windswept sands each June:
ten thousand birds have waded here before.
Each has a beauty all its own, but you
shine like a snowflake in the summer sky.
Teach me the secrets of the rainbow's hue,
fine feathered friend. Show me the reason why
home for a season is a puddled marsh,
where you are lured by lunar waves of tide.
Comb through your crest: south-westerlies are harsh.
Stare at your mirrored face, white water bride.
Stay, feathered friend: your soulmate will come soon -
grey strands of stardust hide a silver moon.
