Stained Glass
It’s so perfect. Light gleams
through coloured glass,
crimson so rich
it has to be swallowed,
blue so noble
it has to be worn,
gold so hot
it has to be spent.
Pristine, but vulnerable
it makes the stone tingle
in my fingers, demand to be released.
I should drop it, but can’t
escape the idea of cracks
radiating out from the point
of contact, pieces tumbling
in coloured flight and
the crash of it, the fracture,
the waterfall of consequences
cascading down in snapshots
of frozen time
between the release
and the wreckage
and the silence.
