That Day, on Alabaster Street
There must have been a sunrise
to make the streets glitter
like granite, fresh as that day
when naked lovers coupled
for the first time, awakened
in a place gardened and grown
luscious with sin.
As if they all knew,
everyone looked with the dull eyes
of cattle in the stall awaiting
the mundane progress
of the farmer with their feed.
Then, I saw you and something
in me opened and warmed.
The gods of stone blessed me that day,
granted you my Pygmalion
to stoke my marble heart
and make it clay.
