Thin stripe of land between water and sky
flatland, lowland, big sky
whose land? your hand?
Line of water/waterline
line where land begins (water? sky?)
In landscape painting, first define line between earth and sky
line where my leg enters the water
line along which your farewells stretch –
when you don’t leave except yourself within me
Those islands in the bay seem arranged according
to the rules of chance and you with me here haphazardly
but we know this isn’t so
We know the light will change
but not what it will do to us
