Five Haibun from A Hawk into Everywhere
Centre of Gravity
Sometimes it’s worth simply disliking things; feigning mild indifference to Mozart, say, or cats; ignoring the full-blown smile of a too-pink rose, cultivating an allergy to stringed instruments, an aversion to cult fiction, or soaps. Easy to forget the location of desire, to lose the reference-point, the charts. But something fell through the gap where the second person singular dwelt; the particular became the universal, or, worse, anonymous. Once all your sentences had subjects. What’s left? A fulcrum of weighted hopes and fears. Night-time’s a bottle short of oblivion; the grass soaked with all that weeping.
Interference, changing light, a combination of sculpture and drawing
