My niece takes me on a journey
Look, she says, and offers the drawing.
Who is it? It’s you, silly.
And of course she’s right. It is me.
There I am with one leg longer than the other
going for that big step forward,
my purple eyes lopsided with the effort,
a manic yellow grin, and my arms wide
as a tightrope walker’s. And this?
She looks at me and shakes her head.
My car? I recognise it now,
the green box of it balanced on two wheels,
hovering under my left armpit,
its lights on, its journey waiting.
