Gone to Town
This rain reminds me
of all that was left undone
what was left unsaid.
I thought I had time
open atmospheric time
to undo it all
replant the garden
rekindle fucked-over love
write all about it.
But then time and I
became lovers and lingered
together too long.
My time together
alone with time consumed me,
rain drop on a leaf,
partners in its fall
long lost afternoons waiting
for consummation
for the next release
the next time time would relent
and let me enter
and get lost in her
lost in the grass of her lawn
lost in her shadows.
And like that I am
old and it’s raining and
she has gone to town.
