The pink house grins through a death-mask of mist;
in the cellar another tooth is snapped.
A husband dreams blood, his face to the wall;
silk fibres get trapped by his fingernails.
The tramp in the doorway lies motionless;
the beggar's lean dogs are waltzing slowly.
Softly, young mums nurse flowerlike bruises;
are rarely seen without their dark glasses.
Children are cursing the price of cocaine;
one more last drink's alright for the road.
The News is oozing with underwear tales.
His hard disk holds photos of girls and boys.
Getting so close to the ladder's last rung;
recalling the dark of March, how it clung.
