Sensory Sweep
You were lavender when you passed
from the oil in the bath I had poured
which you complained had overheated you.
Purple in your terry towel, baked heather
in your attitude and drunk on some
cheap Bordeaux and elastic American prose;
And I could smell your dark intolerance
that dank musk of temper and I was
never so glad to have your measure,
as your wet feet padded damp into my rugs
and that sweet rich coating fell away
via the half open window in the bedroom.
