The Quiet Dust
One grasps his chest
all alone in the street,
his world is folding
like laundered curtains;
a devastation for
the family, though
little to us watching
the ambulance arrive
and the quiet dust starts
filling up the cracks.
Two is silent on
scores of tv screens,
a child’s uncle, brave
without tears, telling
us of the tragic death
we all will follow
and mourn because of
the tragic circumstances
and the quiet dust starts
filling up the cracks.
Three arrives home late
from his hectic day
to the bosom of his
loved ones – young sons
and older daughter –
in a large, cold kitchen
where his wife says she
doesn’t love him anymore
and the quiet dust starts
filling up the cracks.
