In the distance
A man walks a mournful cow
There and back.

It is impossible to say who
Is the more unhappy. The cow
Has a swollen udder. The man
Has thoughts tangled together
Like poisonous snakes.
Ugly vegetables grow upwards
And downwards in all directions
Of them. The man and his cow.
Walking.
There and back.

The snakes are tangled
In a dry hessian sack
That he is kicking forwards
To keep them furious
As he walks
There and back.
There and back.
Her name is Yvette. She is from
Cherbourg. She sways her hips.
Swishes her tail
both ways.
East and West.
They met on holiday.
