Secret Path To Sanity
On the paved road,
these two travelers met.
One,
girlfriend in tow
and the other
tasting life
with all of its nectar.
An unlikely pair
but both speaking
the same ‘ I understand you,’
language.
Hitchhiking through Jordan,
leaving Israel twice...
and ending up in the lobby
of the Taba Hilton
in Egypt.
I met them there,
carols singing
Christmas trees and fake presents
beneath the branches.
In the past few days,
these two friends
have taught me to laugh again.
There is great strength
derived from good humour
and giggling in a frenzy.
We climbed Mt. Sinai.
Without
that tough Aussie lass’
powerful character,
I don’t think I could
have made it.
Now with photo on peak
and stories germinating,
I revel in fate
bestowing
grand heaps
of sanity.
