Epochs sooner change
than these
dark archaic figures at the door,
loud voiced and thirsty
When the back flap of the truck drops
fossil worlds
fall at their feet
Descendants of
extinct hominids
expressionless their faces under
masks
of pulverized incomprehensible
pastness
A moment came when the carbon
overwhelmed them, now
it will not set them free
