Some people dive into the hedgerow
with sticks, beating about them, sterns
aloft, intent upon the quarry.
They come away grasping fistfuls
of prey, leaving the bank like
an unmade bed.
There is another way –
a way of standing by
and feeling into the presence
till you see it. A small green
phallus, erect and waiting.
