Before Rapahel even dared
That was the day
that I took your red hair,
your marble skin,
to see Lizzie Siddal
at the Art Gallery,
sent your eyes,
as petal-thin as delphiniums,
glowing like paper lanterns
at the expanse of the place,
fluttering from frame
to bright gilt frame,
until they rested
on Ophelia,
her body soaked again
in the loose moonlight
of last night’s industrial town,
the stream of conscience
opening your lips to sigh
as you felt me touch
your submerged flesh,
under the very eye of the custodian.
