Casablanca
She works in a video store, watches movies day and night.
Lives in a world of technicolour but she dreams in black and white.
Of sitting on a big settee with someone who understands
Eating popcorn off his knee and gently holding hands
While watching for the hundredth time Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.
Believing that for every Rick Blane there is a loving Ilsa
Who will turn grey to blue and raise their glass and say
Here’s looking at you kid, here’s looking at you.
In her dreams she drinks champagne but she is torn apart.
She tries to love two men but she only has one heart.
Then that old piano man plays it all over again
And reminds her of that first kiss down by the Seine.
And in her dreams his smoky kiss is more than just a kiss
It’s the moment when she realised what it felt like to exist.
But she loses him in limbo on the runway of life
And she rises like an angel to remain another man’s wife.
But she’ll always have Paris to help her through the night
Yes she’ll always have Paris and she’ll dream in black and white.
