of back and thighs
as I drift
in among the shelves
of sunlight,
washing
letting water pour.
sleepy
with heat and quietness.
Tom wakes in his cot,
going ‘Yass yass yass’.
burning toast.
chaotic bed.
anxiety sidling in.
plans for the day.
sticky morning voices.
who sits in dad’s chair today?
coffee in a yellow cup.
‘Mum’s throwing up. Again.’
Your solid back,
pausing
on the stair.
you go down
more slowly than you came up.
