This Island
is a heavyweight of sun
on burnt shoulders; a cool nor’wester
massaging
your back.
is salt on your tongue; grit
between your teeth; the scent
of morning glory
after rain
and sand shifting underfoot.
is a blueblade horizon;
a red ball of sun
that blinks
green
and leg-aching nightmares
double parked
in one hot bed
after another
and the sound of steel drums
is heartpound, bellyflutter,
a stubborn slowbrainworm
digging
the dark
till the white, white moon
smiles
and smiles
and follows you home
and you are beautiful tonight.
