The Sleep-Over Room
A lady given my by the Agency
is rising with the rain.
A bedside photo of her swallow dive
takes my breath away.
I tuck her up again, kiss the softness
of a giving-way-to-another cheek
and return to the sleep-over room
to dream of intimacy:
exposure before the fall of the sheet.
Suddenly it thunders. Is anybody there?
I leave my poems and through the window
watch the sea with her.
When the moon is washed
we’ll look for Lundy,
and she’ll point
to the white cafe across the bay,
Once my husband took me there.
Seven times she’ll tell me.
Seven times the waves will draw
Did he? from me.
