Dream Life of the Ant
The dream life of the ant is my present study. Though small it is very active, full of tangled little legs and tiny fragments of black mica drifting around in a steel-blue sky
In its dream life the ant jumps even further than in reality, spanning space from planet to planet as swiftly as the juice drips from an injured tree.
Once caught in this juice the ant is immobilized, a captive to all eternity. This is the ant’s nightmare, that side of its dream life whose blackness causes it to shade its blue eyes against the laser beam of its innermost thoughts.
Such thoughts as these, when they penetrate the outer shell of its protective covering, leave it a prey to every bird whose own dreams seethe with a pullulating mass of tiny insects whose parasitic existence is a threat to its own.
Thus the dream life of the ant, reflected in the tubular steel casing of a bird’s eye, becomes a paradigm of human existence and an awful warning to all whose fragmentary conception of reality excludes such tiny but immensely important elements in the cosmic scheme.
