GEMINI: You are irresponsible and relentless today, don’t go out.
In an instant I lost it.
Who I am, gone: the Social Security card I got when I was 14, an airline credit card, 2 gas cards, voter registration, bulk-rate postage permit, photograph of my son, Driver’s License, Insurance numbers, good luck stone, swim card, gone. I can’t drive a car, cash a check, send out mail, vote, file my Quarterly Estimated Tax form, or fly to Mexico if I want to, not that I will, but now I can’t because I don’t exist.
I call Mastercard:
This is a computer-assisted call, please state your name. I do. Credit Card number, I give it. Expiration date, I name a date but something’s wrong, I beg your pardon, it says, Could you repeat that please? I repeat it, have entered a mecanichal dimension, no human identity, no body hair, laughter, depression, passion or debt. Everything is mechanical, dogs bark when I walk by, the pet reptile doesn’t snap for food when I drop pellets in the water.
I’ve lost my wallet,
and don’t exist.
