SYLVIA PLATH, born in Boston, attended Newnham College, Cambridge, on a Fullbright Grant from 1955 to 1957, after which she became an instructor in English at Smith College, Boston. She is the wife of the poet, Ted Hughes.
FRANCIS FYTTON is 33, was born in Manchester, and joined the RAF at 17. As a sergeant in the Middle East he was attached to the Syrian Army and later the Armée de l’Air. This was his first contact with ‘Les Paras’ who were being flown to deal with the revolt in Madagascar.
NED ROREM, born in Chicago in 1923, studied at the Juillard School of Music in New York, and later with Aaron Copland and Virgil Thompson. His compositions, many of which have been performed in Europe as well as the US, include orchestral and chamber works, songs, and ballet music.
FRANCIS HOPE is a Fellow of All Souls’, Oxford. He has contributed criticism to Time and Tide.
