Desert notes
On a mountainside strewn with shells
Horny cactus bear no fruit
And snakes watch from under hanging shadows
A mountain vista stretching off into haze
Below, a village squats on the hill
Red mud walls, rectangular, compact
Red rock haven stretching into heaven
And there, only silence, no clutter of people
Just the sound of distant waves
And flies
The cracking scale of snake
Trying to find solace in the shadow of an answer
Whilst the blood screams in the ears
The brain feels tight and fit to burst
The whisper of a breeze
Is never quite enough
Hunched to rock shadow side
Sucking in breezes
A lung full of dust
The falcon swings left to right
Seeking a purchase, a perch
Across a cliff face
