Outside of Somewhere
somewhere
somebody is alive,
somebody is living.
but I am
here,
I am left here
with my thin legs
and red face.
and the whisky
I am drinking
was made somewhere else,
somewhere far from here.
and on the TV
I can see the world,
it must exist
because I can see it in there.
I can see India
and China and Guayaquil
from this chair.
and in the market hall
tomorrow I will buy
potatoes and broccoli and cheese
sauce and beer.
and as jet planes sail silently overhead
the boys will pour out
of the pubs and gyms
and snooker halls.
they will drive their cars
up and down the promenade
not realising they are on the outer
edge of something.
