towards the fashion boots.
There’s something in the way she
turns and looks and smiles at him
(he’s following, hands in hand-warmer pockets,
unimpressed by chunky autumn styles)
above the nubuck weekenders
you know she means all kinds of things
she thinks he’ll understand, like
biking in that snowfall at Trelill, canned cider
and a hunter’s moon, the day’s clothes
in one heap.
The oxblood leather ankle boots
he’s picked before she points.
