The patterned carpet
and the patterned wallpaper
and the patterned sofa
with the three patterned armchairs.
And the plain oblong window
with the two shutters
which let in the row of the coal trains
and the dust of the coal trains
through that single summer.
And the plastic roses that lit up
when plugged in,
and the plastic stag’s head that hung
above the gas fire
through that last winter
and that was Anne-Marie’s and went
when Anne-Marie went.
And the small black & white portable
that was Jane’s and went
when Jane went.
