the third and latest poets conference was held in the national poetry
centre, london, during july of this year. a brief list of its main recom-

1. london area poetry reading organizers were reminded that subsidies were available from the london poetry secretariat; it was recommended that this possibility should be extended to other parts of the country through regional arts associations and similar bodies.

2. the non-payment of fees to poets reading at the recent london book bang was deplored. it was agreed to write to the national book league and the publishers association to ensure future payment of proper fees.

3. the setting up of a comprehensive file of all poets in the uk was
urged. such a file should be open to any poet who wanted to be on it and should be readily available to organizers of readings, editors etc.

4. members were urged to join the poetry society in order to ensure
that poets views were represented in the developing of the national
poetry centre and other services to poetry.

5. it was agreed to put pressure on the arts council of great britain to open its poets-in-schools list to more poets. it was noted that the welsh arts councils list was already fully comprehensive.

6. the reduction of support for little magazines by the arts council of
gb was deplored as was its failure to spend even 1% of its total allocation on literature. the welsh arts council's increased grants to little mags was welcomed and it was urged to continue to continue and increase its grants to poetry readings.

7. an increase in the amount of poetry broadcast on radio and
television was urged.

8. members were urged to be alert to possibilities for the setting up
of more regional poetry centres.

9. it was suggested that once the pressing business and financial
problems facing poets conference had been resolved, the conference itself could turn its attention to matters of craft, vision, style & function.
