Catherine Hales
revelation
shadows angle away
the sky invades
wherever you look
there are roofs balconies
awash with it
harsh light pointing up
to perfection the paint
peeling from walls
unswept corners cracks
blemishes unwanted hair
were we to believe
in some deity we'd say
this is all
the evidence we need
of divine revelation
even dogs slacken down around midday
when nothing else matters
at least we have this
the thrill of inflicting
the wound of silence
