The Bogyman Arrives at an Objective Point of View
I wanted to stand in a place of beauty but the path through the
blackwood forest only led one way. The trees walked with me.
The view never changed. Brown air. In no position to send a
cloud, the sky slipped me a knife. Thin shadows talked of height
and appetite. They were plotting atrocities and growing without
water. I whistled I want you, but I had forgotten who I wanted
and what for. The trees stopped the birds singing. With a crack
the nearest one sprouted another dry inch. I was almost used to
it. They called out to me. You think we are ugly. You think this is
a quest. You owe us something. The sky retreated over a clock
face. I felt the trees turn me in a different direction. They were
better than nothing. And the place of beauty was a long way off.
All I had was a knife.
