Drought
An English lawn
is harder work
than first thought
when lust
tore open the packet,
cast seed in moist soil
now dust
and full of brown patches
where tom cats
have sprayed
nasty surprises
revealed days
too late
or burnt out
from chemicals
over applied;
the only solution
to scrape with the rake
and wait
for the rain
like a menopausal woman
dried up in August
longing for September.
