The Tall Lighthouse Poetry Review Dec. 2004 has 54 pages of consistently good poetry, muscular, rhythmic, sure in construction, with an exciting variety of subjects. It is well-produced, with a spine and plenty of space is given to each poem. With so much high quality, it is difficult to choose examples. The many poets include Keith Please - '...the ice of sapphire, behind / and what Van Gogh has running furiously through corn' (from Skies) Sarah Maguire, whose fine images include 'The heart of Everest / is studded / with corals,...' and 'the hard push of buds, / in rain / beating the glass' in her crisp, compact Steadfast, Jamie McKendrick and Mario Petrucci, whose keen observation and brilliant juxtaposition creates: 'Watch this admiral fold his wings / then fold his antennae vaseline-flat / See him red-faced as any teenager, / squirm into his chrysalis...' to 'Watch me vanish into the womb, / my mother growing young - to one who / makes my father's eyes untwinkle so I / remain unborn...' (from Watch)
