Editor's Note
This is the last journal issue of the magazine, which will now go into hibernation for at least two years. Whether it will resume then will depend as much upon reserves of energy as cash. There is a strong possibility that there will the occasional co-venture with another small press over the nest 2 years, but it is too early to give details. Any results of this endeavour will be seen in 1983.
Saying goodbye isn’t easy, and I wish it could continue somehow. I am delighted with the way the magazine has become a forum for writers to learn of each other’s work. The most recent case of this was with the Philippe Jacottet poems in nos. 5 & 6. The response was astounding, and unanimously enthusiastic. I would only say that it’s about time we had a large collection of his poetry published in England. The same goes for some other French poets, such as Yves Bonnefoy, Andre du Bouchet & Jacques Dupin. And Claude Royet-journoud, Jacques Roubaud, Robert Marteau & Anne-Marie Albiach.
The list goes on.
If there are any ventures in the offing, all those on the SHEARSMAN mailing list will be notified.
