From Pups, a sequence
Paul
As if being divorced, out of work and living
In his parents' box room wasn't plenty
To be going on with. He'd been taking
Some solace over a lager one Sunday
Afternoon. It was his local. His face
Was known. Three lads from across town
Started giving a barmaid some stress
So he butted in, tried to bring them down
A peg. They didn't take it well; dragged him
Outside and paid him back, three against one.
That barmaid, did she feel she owed him?
She locked both doors until they were done.
His best mate, who'd made himself scarce,
Called the ambulance. No witnesses of course.
