Now he steps out
wearing his shoes
the kit of club midnight.
In the lonely hour, standing
where everyone wanders home
parts to an empty bed,
the jarred cat flap
and yesterday’s milk.
Coffee suds his tongue
touching up his senses
as his shoes dissolve the lights
stepping into a candle stained room.
The room that he tried to lose
to step away from
but somehow it found him
and more shoes sparkle in the corner.
But none have the appeal
of his black leather star catchers
tied to the laces of stark barrelled night.
