A Busy Night
Three crashes in
and it’s early
yet. The nurse says
that they
are short staffed again
and the waiting
room is now full to
standing only. But
you’re not serious
you’ll have to wait. Here,
have a magazine
(which I read with
bleeding fingers, and a
child that’s swallowed
a plastic soldier is dealt
with first)
After four Woman’s Owns
I should be
next, but the man that’s
been here all night
finally
snaps. Shouting and yelling ‘I pay
my bloody poll tax and this is
what I get.’ Appropriately
men
in white coats take
him away. Now
it is me. Treated by a
student
nurse.
‘You look like my boyfriend’
she says, tying
my bandages.
