from Ignorancia (1994)
Woman in Exile
To erase, to write.
Waves fly as they cross out.
They speak and deny the soul and longing and water.
They are the space of fear, the spiral shell of dim echo,
the deadened noise of cliffs and the infinite sea,
a paralysis and a perfect, circular dream,
a cry freezing a blue wall,
they break, break, break.Words repeat their movement tirelessly, their pulsations.
Letters like mosquitos, stains, ink.
Here is all the history not lived, not
told. Place that rolls over and over. And the salt? The sandbanks of guano? The whispers?
The sea is imperturbable, its constant submarine rumour.
How to move the hands?
How begin to babble?Between two sealed letters reality happens.
Two letters are a bridge like a breath.
A prison, this numbness. That unreachable rumour, the world,
this residue.
