THE POETRY SOCIETY has just announced details of a National Poetry Competition to be judged by Ted Hughes, Gavin Ewart and Fleur Adcock and carrying a £1,000 first prize. The competition which is the first of a planned annual series, closes on December 29 and the prizes will be awarded in February 1979, celebrating the Society's 70th anniversary. NORTHERN ARTS POETRY LIBRARY
Over 3,000 volumes of English poetry published since April 1968, together with a selection of little magazines, are available to personal or postal borrowers. There are new extended browsing and study facilities for this library in the County Central Library, Morpeth.
Opening hours are from 10am to 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday and on Saturday, from 9am to 1pm.
Each member receives a catalogue of the books available and a list of the poetry magazines. If you live within the counties of Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland or Tyne and Wear join by sending your name and address to:

NORTHERN WRITERS are invited to take part in a new competition for a full-length book, fiction or non-fiction of not more than 80,000 words that has not previously been submitted to any publisher.
