As it is
The town’s glare hangs below clouds,
refusing to let darkness out.
The wind shudders with nets.
Fishermen spot the sea.
What I’d bring ashore,
even if I couldn’t hear water,
landlocked, walled-up… I’d snare the sun
as it completes itself, kicks free.
And the sea would rise to my window,
liquefy glass until it flowed too,
murmur only sky can flatten me.
It would explain why some shadows return,
before slipping back into the ground
along gutters, down drains, while spiders
draw down mist to distract us.
