Free Bird
This free as a bird
bird
driven from woodsun
by spring and metal
in his paper skull
pecks at the frame
and squeezes in a head;
smells coffee
percolating.
This free bird
veers at clinic white walls
skeeters at kids who play
and frighten him
(‘Did he come in through the window?’)
loses control
ungainly
pulls back his lips.
in a leer.
This bird
sees the haven
from which he strayed
framed- in the window
blue and. green
bright like a slide show
projected on a screen.
Poise -regained he swoops
at the mirage
and crumples
on glass.
This free as a bird
bird
metal dribbling
from his humourless grin
mulling the bloodrush
stares empty
at plastic.
