from the sequence If You Love Do Not Fear God
When the Time for Love has Passed
What do you do then,
love under the moon,
under a clouded sky
or on a rainy afternoon?
Or see with melancholy
the petals flying from your heart
like kites gone with the wind
when the time for love has passed?
You’ll know well it’s too late
to grasp between your fingers
the water rushing down river.
