These moving, soundless images:
they are captives of my childhood,
yours and mine - yes, you could
say we were innocent then, but
I see that reckless grin of yours,
crawling on all fours; your crumpled
face when you didn't get your way,
how you dominated every scene
with your unashamed gusto, then
as now, and I see, too, the way I
stood on the corners with a down-turned
stare, a fragile mouth, letting
you take over, for it was always
easier - don't tell me our natures
were unformed; mine gave way to
let you be the darling, but
I see how you grow silence when
the screen frames my
singular baby-form, our mother's fascination
with my every move, and for once
I see how you could envy me,
little sister.
