Post-natal
Men, composting Rose Garden,
push buggies full of tanned fragments.
Around her, their rose bushes spurt,
dark red April fledglings propped
among the concrete paths
and massed with hothouse petals.
Her baby cries, without the delicates cycle
to calm him, tumbling and stopping.
Each man throws his shovel
into a heap on a torn,
fallen advert, a model
touching an intricate buckle.
