Tired
Tired of falling out and in and out of love
I woke up sure the dream of you had fled
some time since, like a negligent resolve,
a car alarm, a sprig in a cold snap,
leaving the clouds of our imaginary bed
the way the landing plane surrenders
the fancy of its airborne assumption
to the unstrenuous solidity of fact.
It was the lulling lure’s legerdemain.
The waking was the dream, the interruption
that opened like the chasm between chapters
only to vanish in the ready page-turn
of compulsion and like the suppressed symptom
I see you now everywhere and with a vengeance.
