from Quest: Misty Sonnets
10
But for the silence, which invades my ear,
Whose source I could not ever comprehend,
My world is so simple, – should I smear
Or praise it but, for God’s sake, not amend.I went a-journeying to another land
Only to understand that home’s still near.
Even Ulysses wasn’t a pioneer
In trading his good wife for the world’s end!Once at the Rialto I procured a pear
To quench a sort of Byronic hunger and
In Venice, in that foreign hemisphere
‘Twas homely sweet and yellow like the sand.So here’s my quest, uncertain but sincere,
the rest of me obvious and clear.
