Going Going Gone
Who or what
Where or when
thrush or cock
flush or trust
tryst or wrist
must or dust
lust or fust
Two people sat in the room
Icicles banging from her womb
Bicycle bells tinkled brassily
Not today but yesterday
Not today but yesterday
We only just got there in time
The washing was still on the line
The clock was still ticking
But certainly he was not knitting.
We tied knots in the curtains
Kicked the bed legs
Dried the ducks’ eggs
Fried the molluscs
Ate the crusts
& cried & cried.
